February 1, 2012 (LEONI TOWNSHIP, Mich.) (WLS) — Ten people were hurt when an Amtrak train crashed and partially derailed Wednesday morning in southern Michigan.

The train was headed from Pontiac, Michigan to Chicago when it slammed into a semi-truck near Ann Arbor. At least two train cars derailed.

The semi had become stuck on the tracks.

Sixty-eight passengers and five crew members were on board. The injured include the truck driver, the train engineer and several passengers. None of their injuries is life threatening.

The passengers arrived in Chicago late Wednesday afternoon.

Full Wolverine Service set for Thursday, February 2, alternate transportation being provided for part of one westbound trip

Amtrak plans to operate all Wolverine Service trains between Pontiac/Detroit and Chicago on Thursday, February 2, with the exception of alternate transportation for a portion of one westbound trip.

Rather than originate in Pontiac, Train 351 will originate in Jackson and operate west to Chicago, with alternate transportation provided between Pontiac/Detroit and Jackson. The other two westbound trains (Trains 353 & 355) and all three eastbound trains (Trains 350, 352 & 354) are planned to operate over the full route with the reopening of Norfolk Southern Railway track between Ann Arbor and Jackson.

The track was damaged on February 1, when an Amtrak train was disabled from making contact with a heavy vehicle in its path at a public highway crossing. Residual delays are expected as Norfolk Southern continues to make repairs in the area.

Passengers who have paid for travel but wish to change plans can receive rail fare refunds or rebook for future travel without a fee or penalty. If tickets have not yet been printed, the modification or cancelation can be done on Amtrak.com or by using the free Amtrak for iPhone app.
